SUMMARY:COMPLECS: Intermediate Linux and Shell Scripting
DESCRIPTION:Knowledge of Linux is indispensable for using advanced CI. Whil
e GUIs are becoming more prevalent, being able to work at the command line
interface (CLI) provides the greatest power and flexibility. In this sess
ion, we assume that participants are already comfortable with basic Linux
operations such as creating, deleting and renaming files, and navigating b
etween directories. Topics covered include the filesystem hierarchy, file
permissions, symbolic and hard links, wildcards and file globbing, finding
commands and files, environment variables and modules, configuration file
s, aliases, history and tips for effective Bash shell scripting.--- What
is COMPLECS? - COMPLECS (COMPrehensive Learning for end-users to Effective
ly utilize CyberinfraStructure) training covers non- programming skills ne
eded to effectively use supercomputers. Topics include parallel computing
concepts, Linux tools and bash scripting, security, batch computing, how t
o get help, data management and interactive computing. Each session offers
1 hour of instruction followed by a 30-minute Q&A. COMPLECS is supported
by NSF award 2320934.---Mary P. ThomasComputational Data Scientist, HPC
Trainer, SDSCMary Thomas is a member of the Data Enabled Scientific Comput
ing (DESC) division. Mary holds a Ph.D. in computational science, and M.S.
degrees in computer science and physics. Her research interests include:
HPC computing and training; coastal ocean modeling; cyberinfrastructure an
d emerging technologies, including Jupyter notebooks, interactive and clou
 d computing.
