SUMMARY:COMPLECS: Intermediate Linux and Shell Scripting
DESCRIPTION:Knowledge of Linux is indispensable for using advanced CI. Whil
e GUIs are becoming more prevalent, being able to work at the command line
interface (CLI) provides the greatest power and flexibility. In this sess
ion, we assume that participants are already comfortable with basic Linux
operations such as creating, deleting and renaming files, and navigating b
etween directories. Topics covered include the filesystem hierarchy, file
permissions, symbolic and hard links, wildcards and file globbing, finding
commands and files, environment variables and modules, configuration file
s, aliases, history and tips for effective Bash shell scripting.--- What
is COMPLECS? - COMPLECS (COMPrehensive Learning for end-users to Effective
ly utilize CyberinfraStructure) is a new SDSC program where training will
cover non-programming skills needed to effectively use supercomputers. Top
ics include parallel computing concepts, Linux tools and bash scripting, s
ecurity, batch computing, how to get help, data management and interactive
computing. Each session offers 1 hour of instruction followed by a 30-min
ute Q&A. COMPLECS is supported by NSF award 2320934.---Mary P. ThomasCompu
tational Data Scientist, HPC Trainer, SDSCMary Thomas is a member of the D
ata Enabled Scientific Computing (DESC) division. Mary holds a Ph.D. in co
mputational science, and M.S. degrees in computer science and physics. Her
research interests include: HPC computing and training; coastal ocean mod
eling; cyberinfrastructure and emerging technologies, including Jupyter no
 tebooks, interactive and cloud computing.
