SUMMARY:Effective Strategies for Engaging Undergraduate Students in High Pe
rformance Computing and Data Science Research Experiences
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will showcase effective strategies for design
ing, implementing, and evaluating research experiences that attract and re
tain undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering, and math
disciplines. Focused on weeklong and summer programs, the session highligh
ts the impact of training students to use national Cyberinfrastructure by
integrating the learning of computational science, artificial intelligence
, data-enabled science, and multidisciplinary science in preparation for g
raduate programs and the workforce. Longitudinal data will be presented al
ong with reflections and participant success stories, offering insights fo
r those seeking to replicate similar programming at their institutions. D
 r. Gomez leads education and outreach activities that expand understanding
and appreciation of the value of high-performance computing and the caree
r opportunities available in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathema
tics (STEM) fields, particularly among underrepresented populations.
