SUMMARY:CyberInfrastruture-Enabled Machine Learning (CIML) Summer Institute
  2025
DESCRIPTION:Application open! Apply today!Last day to apply is Friday, Apri
 l 11, 2025Preparation Day (virtual): Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 9 am - 11
am (Pacific Time)Summer Institute (in person): Tuesday, June 24 - Thursd
ay, June 26, 2025 from 8 am - 5:30 pm (Pacific Time)The San Diego Supercom
puter Center (SDSC) Cyberinfrastructure-Enabled Machine Learning (CIML) pr
oject is focused on teaching researchers and students the best practices f
or effectively running machine learning (ML) and data science applications
on advanced cyberinfrastructure (CI) and high-performance computing (HPC)
systems.  The CIML Summer Institute introduces machine learning (ML) co
ncepts to researchers, developers and educators techniques and methods nee
ded to migrate their ML applications from smaller, locally run resources,
such as laptops and workstations, to large-scale HPC systems, such as the
SDSC’s Expanse supercomputer. Participants will have the opportunity to
accelerate their learning process through highly interactive classes with
hands-on tutorials using SDSC’s Expanse. In addition, we will try to reac
h the highest number of research institutions in the United States, in par
ticular those that have no or limited access to advanced supercomputing or
CI resources, and we will try to balance attendees from a diverse pool of
scientific communities. Additionally, attendees will have opportunities
to meet one-on-one with SDSC’s experts to discuss in detail the best tec
hniques to solve their specific ML problems.Researchers and educators from
underrepresented groups and minority serving institutions (MSIs) are stro
ngly encouraged to apply.PrerequisiteKnowledge or experience with machine
learning is requiredFamiliarity with UNIX/Linux shellBasic programming ski
lls (especially Python) are strongly recommended Program includesOverview
of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Parallel Computing ConceptsInstru
ctional and hands-on exercises focused on HPC techniques, Machine Learning
