SUMMARY:COMPLECS: Intermediate Linux
DESCRIPTION:SummaryKnowledge of Linux is indispensable for using advanced C
 I. While GUIs are becoming more prevalent, being able to work at the comma
nd line interface (CLI) provides the greatest power and flexibility. In th
is session, we assume that participants are already comfortable with basic
Linux operations such as creating, deleting and renaming files, and navig
ating between directories. Topics covered include the filesystem hierarch
y, file permissions, symbolic and hard links, wildcards and file globbing,
finding commands and files, environment variables and modules, configurat
ion files, aliases, and history. InstructorMary Thomas works in the Data-
Enabled Scientific Computing Division, where she is leading education, out
reach & training on HPC systems. In the past, Mary has led several portal
and Web services projects for high-performance computing infrastructure. M
ary holds a Ph.D. in computational science, and her primary research has b
een focused on HPC computing, coastal ocean modeling, cyberinfrastructure,
web technologies, and Amazon Web Services. Mary is also a research facult
y member in the Computational Sciences Research Center at San Diego State
University. For fun, Mary has sponsored 2 teams at the annual student clus
ter competitions at the SC Conference (The International Conference for Hi
gh Performance Computing, Networking, Storage, and Analysis).See a full li
st of SDSC's upcoming training and events here.--- COMPLECS (COMPrehensiv
e Learning for end-users to Effectively utilize CyberinfraStructure) is a
new SDSC program where training will cover non-programming skills needed t
o effectively use supercomputers. Topics include parallel computing concep
ts, Linux tools and bash scripting, security, batch computing, how to get
help, data management and interactive computing. Each session offers 1 hou
r of instruction followed by a 30-minute Q&A. COMPLECS is supported by NSF
  award 2320934.
