 enter, University of California San Diego campusThe SDSC Summer Institute 
 is a week-long workshop hosted annually by the San Diego Supercomputer Cen
 ter (SDSC) at UC San Diego, focusing on introductory-to-intermediate topic
 s in High Performance Computing (HPC), Data Science, and Artificial Intell
 igence (AI). Designed for researchers and educators in academia and indust
 ry, the program equips participants to solve scientific challenges exceedi
 ng local computing capabilities.The purpose of the Summer Institute is to 
 give the attendees an overview of topics in High Performance Computing and
  Data Science and accelerate their learning process through highly interac
 tive classes with hands-on tutorials on the Expanse Supercomputer.  Moreo
 ver, the attendees will have many opportunities to meet one-on-one with SD
 SC’s experts to discuss in detail the best techniques to solve their spe
 cific scientific problems. In order to benefit from the classes, the atten
 dees are required to have familiarity with the UNIX/Linux shell. Basic pro
 gramming skills (in any programming language) are strongly recommended.Par
 ticipation in the SDSC HPC and Data Science Summer Institute will be limit
 ed to 45 candidates. Applicants will be screened to make sure that they ha
 ve the necessary background to benefit from the institute, and that the ap
 plicants have a compelling need for the skills being taught in their resea
 rch or teaching.This program offers housing and travel scholarships availa
