Webinar for SGX3 Curriculum Hackathon Model and upcoming opportunities for faculty

05/14/2026

The Science Gateways Center of Excellence (SGX3) advances the adoption and sustainability of science gateways through community engagement, best practices, and workforce development. A key challenge in this space is supporting faculty who want to integrate modern cyberinfrastructure—such as high performance computing (HPC) and science gateways—into their curricula but often lack time, training, or local expertise. This talk introduces the FacultyHack, an SGX3 workforce development initiative that adapts the hackathon model for faculty-centered curriculum enhancement. Through a structured, mentored, and time-bounded experience, faculty collaborate to develop classroom-ready materials, including revised syllabi and gateway-enabled learning activities. The presentation will describe the FacultyHack model, its design rationale, and lessons learned from multiple implementations, highlighting how faculty-focused hackathons can serve as a scalable mechanism for curriculum evolution and cyberinfrastructure workforce development.
