Training and Events

Title Event Date Description
DAGMan: HTCondor’s Workflow Manager 11/19/24 - 02:30 PM - 04:00 PM EST

Hosted by the OSG Facilitation team, this training will cover an introduction to the DAGMan workflow management tool that is part of the HTCondor scheduler.

In this training, you will be guided through hands-on exercises to learn how to use DAGMan to automate your HTCondor job submissions. This training is especially useful for anyone who has constructed different job types and wants to be able to run them in a certain order.

Workflows with Pegasus 10/15/24 - 02:30 PM - 04:00 PM EDT

Hosted by the OSG Facilitation team, this training will cover an introduction to the Pegasus Workflow Management System, which is a useful tool for researchers needing to execute a large number of jobs or complex workflows.

Attendees will learn how to construct and manage workflows, capabilities like automatic data transfers, and higher level tooling to analyze the workflow performance.

OSPool Basics - Get Running on the OSPool 09/17/24 - 02:30 PM - 04:00 PM EDT

Hosted by the OSG Facilitation team, this training will cover the basics of getting started with research workflows on the OSPool. Topics include:

  • An introduction to OSG services and the OSPool
  • Basics of HTCondor job submission
  • Hands-on practice submitting HTCondor jobs

If you’re new to the OSPool (or been away for awhile) and want to get started, this is an ideal opportunity to go through core concepts and practice hands-on skills.

Throughput Computing 2024 07/08/24 - 10:00 AM - 07/12/ - 01:30 PM EDT

You are invited to the second annual Throughput Computing event (HTC 24) from July 8-12 to be held in beautiful Madison, Wisconsin. HTC 24 brings together researchers, campuses, science collaborations, facilitators, administrators, government representatives, and professionals interested in high throughput computing to:

Move Your Data With Pelican 06/18/24 - 02:30 PM - 04:00 PM EDT

OSG Services is excited to introduce Pelican, a platform created to enable easier data sharing - within or beyond your institution! This training will cover how Pelican is used to move data within the OSPool and also how you can use Pelican tools to host, upload and download your data. We encourage researchers with large amounts of data, as well as campus representatives, to attend to learn about how Pelican can help with your data movement needs.

Registration opens a month before the training date.

OSPool Basics: Get Running on the OSPool 05/21/24 - 02:30 PM - 04:00 PM EDT

If you’re new to the OSPool (or been away for awhile) and want to get started, this is an ideal opportunity to go through core concepts and practice hands-on skills.

Registration opens one month in advance of the training.

Principles of Distributed High Throughput Computing 04/16/24 - 02:30 PM - 04:00 PM EDT

Have you ever wondered about the “why” of HTCondor? Join us to hear about the “philosophy” of high throughput computing and how HTCondor has evolved to make throughput computing possible. This workshop will be led by a core HTCondor developer, Greg Thain, and is a perfect opportunity for longer-term OSPool users to learn more about our underlying technology.

GPUs and the OSPool: Best Practices 03/19/24 - 02:30 PM - 04:00 PM EDT

Hosted by the OSG Facilitation team, this training will cover what you need to consider when transitioning existing GPU-based code from another computing system to the OSPool. We will review important GPU concepts and terminology and how to request GPUs on the OSPool.

Learn About the PATh Facility 02/20/24 - 02:30 PM - 04:00 PM EST

Supported by the same groups that run OSG Services, the PATh Facility provides dedicated throughput computing capacity to NSF-funded researchers for longer and larger jobs than will typically run on OSG services like the OSPool. This training will describe its features and how to get started. If you have found your jobs need more resources (cores, memory, time, data) than is typically available in the OSPool, this resource might be for you!
